Xôi Mặn (Vietnamese Savory Sticky Rice) in Anaheim
Soft, chewy sticky rice piled with Chinese sausage, pork roll, fluffy pork floss, pâté, shrimp, preserved radish, quail eggs and scallion oil, finished with fresh cilantro. A Saigon street-food favorite, now made fresh daily at Tai Tea x The V Kitchen near Disneyland.
WHAT IS XÔI MẶN?
Xôi means sticky rice, and mặn means savory. Together they name one of Vietnam's most loved grab-and-go meals: steamed glutinous rice topped with a mix of meats and crunchy, salty toppings. The name sets it apart from sweet xôi, like the mung bean or coconut versions served as dessert.
In Saigon, xôi mặn is a breakfast staple. Street vendors set up before sunrise with big baskets of warm rice, scooping portions into banana leaves or takeout boxes for people on their way to school and work. Every vendor builds it a little differently, but Chinese sausage, pork roll, pork floss, pâté, shrimp, preserved radish, eggs and a spoonful of scallion oil are the classic combination.
It's filling, portable and full of texture: chewy rice, crispy floss, rich sausage, silky pâté, crunchy radish and fragrant scallion oil in every bite. Our version keeps those classic toppings and makes it easy to enjoy any time of day.
